NB. all classes can be varied to suit from duration to which techniques are used and project design and size. Each of my patterns can also be taught as a class. Please see my patterns page for designs.


Art Basics:
Learn basics to help your creative projects shine! Find out 'cheats' for choosing colours that work, explore line, value and scale, teach yourself how to truly 'see' and get the right hand side of your brain really working! From complete beginners to those who need a refresher, this course will help you get the most out of your art and craft be it traditional patchwork or contemporary multi-media art.

All that Glitters:
Put some special effects into your work after doing this class and really getting know how to use Angelina Fibre, Textiva, Polyester film and metallic foils. Myriad techniques are covered and each student will take home their class sampler project ready to frame or sandwich and quilt.
6 hours including lunch break. Materials cost $20 per person

Painting Fabrics:
Play with lots of different fabric painting / drawing mediums and techniques. Includes lots of tips and tricks from set up to special effects. Materials covered are Shiva sticks, Lumiere paint, Sun-sensitive paint, Dye-na-flow, opaque paints, Derwent Inktense pencils, Water colour and normal pencils, pigment ink pens and textile mediums.
6 hours including lunch break. Materials cost $20 per person



Shiva Sticks:
Learn just how easy and smooth these permanent sticks are to use on fabric. We cover freehand techniques including sketching up your design, blending and wet on wet look, stencilling, rubbings, using shavings and how to heat set and take care of your new fabric. We also look at work area set up, how to combine them with other paints and the importance of your fabric choice.
Can be done as a 3 hour technique class or a 6 hour project class. Materials cost $10 per person

Fabric Collages:
Find out just how easy it is to create a fabric landscape using fusable web and material from your scrap bin. We illustrate 3 different easy techniques and talk about the different products you can use and the benefits of each. Specialty threads, needles and materials will also be covered.

Tons of Techniques:
See many, many art quilt techniques and then try out the ones that appeal most. We will look at ways you can edge your work other then conventional binding and look at the various benefits of different base fabrics. Some materials to be covered: Angelina Fibre, Textiva, Tyvek, Lutrador, speciality threads and needles, bobbin work, marking tools, fusible web, water soluble stabiliser, inkjet printing sheets, yarn, metal foil and heat tools.
6 hours including lunch break.  Project can be a Journal Quilt, Postcards or ATC's. Materials cost $20



Machine Needle Felting:
Get the most out of your embellisher. These wonderful easy to use machines are great, but not knowing where to start can really hamper how much you use them. We look at backings, roving, silk, working from the reverse for colour change, texturising, embedding, collage techniques, yarns, trims and making flowers.

The Yearning:
Learn the techniques used to put together your own version of  this unique quilt You can choose any shape to silhouette. Requires an embellishing machine and freemotion embroidery skills. Heat techniques, trapping, scraps and fusing for when heat tools aren't available will be covered.

Hot Stuff:
Familiarise yourself with all the heat tools available and the many ways to use them. We look at techniques you can create with soldering irons, stencil cutters and wood burning tools (all interchangeable), heat guns, hot fix crystal guns and multi-tip implements. You'll learn how to finish edges, add a hanging sleeve, baste fabric layers, do reverse applique, utilise objects and stencils as templates. texturize and distort fabric. We'll also look at tool care and use and safety precautions. 
3 hours (lecture only), 6 hours practical.  NB. Unless taught as a lecture with samples this class requires good ventilation or an outdoor class area.
